海角视频 President John H. Dozier has been named a recipient of the Health Equity Circle of Champions Award, a distinguished honor recognizing individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing health equity in their communities from the Alliance for a Healthier South Carolina.
The award recognizes leaders who serve as catalysts for change by addressing the root causes of health disparities, fostering inclusive solutions, and building partnerships that improve access to care and education. Dr. Dozier is recognized for his commitment to creating healthier, more connected communities through strategic leadership, community engagement, and collaborative initiatives.
鈥淥ur work isn鈥檛 about data points. It鈥檚 about people, their lives, and the opportunities available to them,鈥 said Dr. Dozier. 鈥淚n the 29203 community, where health challenges like diabetes have had a generational impact, we have a responsibility to show up differently. This recognition reflects a shared commitment to do that work with our community.鈥
Under Dr. Dozier鈥檚 leadership, 海角视频 is strengthening its commitment to workforce-focused education through the strategic alignment of its academic structure, including the establishment of a School of Health Sciences. This work reflects a deliberate focus on expanding opportunities in allied health over time, in response to critical community and workforce needs. These efforts are grounded in the College鈥檚 broader mission to serve as an anchor institution for access, education, and upward mobility across the Midlands.
A cornerstone of this work is Wellness in Action, a community health initiative founded by Dr. Dozier and First Lady Victoria Dozier. Designed to connect education, access, and engagement, the initiative brings together students, schools, and community partners to promote lifelong wellness.
Beginning today, April 15, and continuing through April 16, 海角视频 will welcome K鈥12 students from across the Midlands for a series of interactive Wellness in Action education days on campus. Participants will engage in hands-on workshops, including Healthy Living Inside & Out, Healthy Habits, and a Fitness Fun Zone, all developed in collaboration with campus and community partners.
These events will culminate in the Wellness in Action 5K Walk/Run/Roll on Saturday, April 25, sponsored by Prisma Health. The day-long event invites community members of all ages to participate in the race and remain on campus for a wellness festival featuring food box giveaways, local health vendors, and on-site health screenings. Activities will take place from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
鈥淒r. Dozier鈥檚 leadership reflects the very spirit of this award,鈥 said a representative of the Health Equity Circle of Champions selection committee. 鈥淗is work demonstrates how higher education institutions can partner with communities to create meaningful, lasting change.鈥
Through initiatives like Wellness in Action and the continued alignment of health-focused academic priorities, 海角视频 is advancing its role as a community-centered institution committed to improving lives across South Carolina.
